All of the children live within 20 miles of us except our Belize Islanders.
My Chihuahua experience started as a little girl when my Mother purchased a Chihuahua mix of Chihuahua and fox terrier. The breeder called this baby an "Amitoy." Of course, we had never heard of the breed, but "TOY" became the baby of the household. Years later when I had children of my own. My daughter Michele suffered with extreme allergies. Hay fever, asthma, wheezing. She was on three injections per week at the age of 17. Our local pediatrician, Dr. George Tiss who was an allergy specialist suggested we purchase a 'Chihuahua.' He explained that some called it a 'myth' but he was convinced that Chihuahua's put out a dander that purified the air around them. He said he could write a book on his successes with his patients. We went straight to our local pet store and purchased "Tike Renee." A black and white Chihuahua. To our surprise, Michele was off her injections within a three month period. This was 1987 and I have been raising these little love bugs ever since. I very was green in the beginning and was only concerned about a nice pet. My first experience with a show quality Chihuahua came from Barbara Davis of Legends and Jean Dobbs of Dobbs Chihuahuas. These ladies have years of experience with training and showing the breed. For the past 5 years I have laid my insurance business aside and have became caregiver for my parents. I lost my Dad last year at the age of 93. Mom is 90 paralyzed with diabetes. The picture shown is the one we took in Hawaii. These last few years has given me time on the internet to research the breed and my approach has changed drastically with the new friends across the state who really know the breed. These breeders have really enlightened me on the importance of line and the results of careful breeding. I have actually placed adults in elderly homes for companions and virtually started over with new lines thanks to incite and kindness my show ring mentors. Julie Wright and Cindy Conlin, from the Sacramento area have helped me with information and a quality stud, Sundown's Conlin's (Buddy). Cindy who has became my mentor and partner spending days at my home helping with newborns and breeding. Cindy is handling our new show boy, Paco for me and it looks like Talya will be joining him in the ring in the next few months. Jean Dobbs from New Mexico, has encouraged and been a true friend for years. Linda G from Hot Shot Chihuahuas in Santa Rosa has made me see the discipline that can be established in the behavior side of the Chihuahua. Sue of Lavida Chihuahuas who sold me Talya has inspired me to accept the babies that don't survive as ones that God still wants in his kingdom. Mike and Donna from TNT Chihuahuas who sold me Cissy and Puff are wonderful Christian people who continue to encourage Pat Anderson from Visalia, has been a loyal friend who is always there to help in any situation. My husband who always complains about their barking, is the first one to grab the pediatric electrolyte solution and nutri-cal when a baby is in trouble. My daughters Michele and Melissa who are in their mid thirties, and my grandchildren are with me 100%. Eastan, Ashton, Bailey, Griffin, and Audre' are the first ones through the gate to help with bathing, trimming, and vitamins. They even volunteer for pen and yard clean-up. With all these changes in my breeding habits, it has became an exciting adventure. Results: The perfect pet with beautiful heads and conformation, great temperament, a gait of pride when they run around the patio. End Result: THE CHIHUAHUA
